Winter Deco is a low-key affair compared to February’s event, when the city is over-run with folk of all ages dressed up to the nines in their deco duds, enjoying free concerts, outdoor picnics and soapbox derbies. It may perhaps be best not to expect bevies of flappers and streets road-blocked with vintage cars during winter, but if you’re a hard-core Deco fan, or simply can’t wait a whole year to break out the beaded dress or tweed suit, then Winter Deco Weekend makes a good mini-break for the retro-minded.
There was a choice of events Saturday night; we dropped into the casino in the beautiful Gatsby Room at the Masonic, to watch the high spenders of Deco-dom in their finery (pretend to) gamble away their fortunes at the tables.
